Improved access to Local Water Utility Regulatory Approvals on SEED

Works that need approval under section 60 of the Local Government Act or section 292(1)(a) of the Water Management Act. Under section 60 of the Local Government Act and section 292(1)(a) of the Water Management Act, the Minister responsible for administering the Act is responsible for approving local water utility works, including: - construction or extension of water treatment works by a council (section 60(b) of the Local Government Act) - provision of sewage from its area to be discharged, treated, or supplied to any person by a council (section 60(c) of the Local Government Act) - construction, maintenance, and operation of water management works and other associated works (including water treatment works and sewage works) by a water supply authority (section 292(1)(a) of the Water Management Act). In this section, sewage and water management works include works for producing recycled water from sewage. The Minister responsible for administering the Act has delegated the responsibility for assessing and approving applications made under section 60 of the Local Government Act and section 292(1)(a) of the Water Management Act to the department. ----------------------------------- The approvals are organised into the following categories: ### Water Treatment Works Section 60(b) Local Government Act / (section 292(1)(a) of the Water Management Act). This includes infrastructure and facilities involved in the treatment, supply, and management of water. Construction or extension of water treatment works by a council - New water treatment plant - Augmentation of a water treatment plant - Replacement of a water treatment plant - Adding new treatment processes
### Sewage Treatment Works Section 60(c) Local Government Act / (section 292(1)(a) of the Water Management Act). This includes infrastructure and facilities involved in the collection, treatment, and management of sewage. Provision of sewage from its area to be discharged, treated, or supplied to any person - New sewage treatment plant - Augmentation of a sewage treatment plant - Adding new treatment processes - New sewage collection network - New discharge of treated sewage to the environment
### Recycled Water Works Section 60(c) Local Government Act / (section 292(1)(a) of the Water Management Act). This includes infrastructure and facilities involved in the supply of recycled water produced from sewage and the associated Recycled Water Management System (RWMS). - New water recycling plant - Augmentation of a sewage treatment plant with recycling capability - Adding new treatment processes - New network for supplying recycled water - Modification of the RWMS for new end users or significant changes to operation ----------------------------------- __How to Access the Data on the SEED Open Data Portal__ This landing page provides an overview only.
