The Local Water Utilities (LWU) Regulatory Approvals dataset is now available on the SEED Open Data portal.  These have been released as part of our commitment to transparency in decision making as well as showing how the regulatory process works, and also the breadth of work undertaken by the Department of Planning and Environment Water group.

The Local Water Utilities (LWU) Regulatory Approvals dataset is now available on the SEED Open Data portal.  These have been released as part of our commitment to transparency in decision making as well as showing how the regulatory process works, and also the breadth of work undertaken by the Department of Planning and Environment Water group.

The files show the approvals granted for the construction or extension of water treatment, water reuse and sewage works across NSW.  Approval for these works is granted by the Minister for Water under section 60 of the Local Government Act and section 292 (1) (a) of the Water Management Act.

Overview

Works that need approval under section 60 of the local government act or section 292 (1) (a) of the Water Management Act. Under section 60 of the Local Government Act and section 292(1)(a) of the Water Management Act, the Minister for Lands and Water is responsible for approving local water utility works, including: • construction or extension of water treatment works by a council (section 60(b) of the Local Government Act) • provision of sewage from its area to be discharged, treated, or supplied to any person by a council (section 60(c) of the Local Government Act) • construction, main...
Works that need approval under section 60 of the local government act or section 292 (1) (a) of the Water Management Act. Under section 60 of the Local Government Act and section 292(1)(a) of the Water Management Act, the Minister for Lands and Water is responsible for approving local water utility works, including: • construction or extension of water treatment works by a council (section 60(b) of the Local Government Act) • provision of sewage from its area to be discharged, treated, or supplied to any person by a council (section 60(c) of the Local Government Act) • construction, maintenance, and operation of water management works and other associated works (including water treatment works and sewage works) by a water supply authority (section 292(1)(a) of the Water Management Act). In this section, sewage and water management works include works for producing recycled water from sewage. The Minister for Lands and Water has delegated the responsibility for assessing and approving of applications made under section 60 of the Local Government Act and section 292(1)(a) of the Water Management Act to the department.
