We’re pleased to announce the release of a new dataset on the SEED Open Data Portal: Water Modelling – NARCliM 1.0 Climate Projection Scaling Factors.
This dataset provides monthly rainfall and evapotranspiration scaling factors derived from the NSW and Australian Regional Climate Modelling project (NARCliM 1.0). Global Climate Models (GCMs) operate at coarse resolutions (100–200 km), but water models require finer detail. NARCliM bridges this gap by downscaling climate data to regional scales relevant for NSW.
More details:
- Climate periods covered: 1990–2009, 2020–2039 (projection), 2060–2079 (projection)
- Based on the dry future climate scenario (lowest rainfall projection)
- Scaling factors applied to 10,000 years of stochastic climate data to stress-test water systems
- Derived from the CSIRO Mk 3.0 GCM, downscaled with three RCMs under NARCliM 1.0
- Supports Regional Water Strategies by showing how options perform under severe drought conditions
