We’re pleased to share updated versions of the following Water Sharing Plans spatial datasets, now available on the SEED Open Data Portal:
- Water Sharing Plans – Unregulated River Water Sources (Spatial Dataset)
- Water Sharing Plans – WSP Prescribed Wetlands for unregulated river water sharing plans (Inland NSW) – Spatial Dataset
These updates align with the commencement of remade water sharing plans under the Water Management Act 2000, following periodic review and replacement of plans.
What’s been updated
Both datasets have been updated to reflect the latest water sharing plans for inland NSW water sources, including:
- Water Sharing Plan for the Gwydir Unregulated River Water Sources 2026
- Water Sharing Plan for the Macquarie/Wambuul Bogan Unregulated Rivers Water Sources 2026
- Water Sharing Plan for the Namoi and Peel Unregulated Rivers Water Sources 2026
For the Prescribed Wetlands dataset, updates also reflect wetlands identified and protected under these plans.
What’s included
For both Open Data assets (i) Prescribed Wetlands and (ii) Unregulated River Water Sources, each dataset includes:
- Current geodatabase representing the full suite of water sharing plans, including the newly commenced plans
- Historical geodatabase for comparison and change tracking
- Spatial services (WMS, WFS and Feature Service) for integration into mapping platforms
- Supporting metadata and documentation
Why this matters
These datasets support consistent and transparent access to spatial representations of water sharing plan boundaries and rules. They can be used to support planning, analysis and integration into GIS and mapping systems.
These datasets complement the notified plans available on the NSW legislation website. In-force water sharing plans remain the legally binding instruments.
